General Information about Vitamins
All vitamins can be divided into two categories: water-soluble and fat-soluble. Vitamin B and C are water-soluble, and Vitamin A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble. The differences:
Water-soluble vitamins can be easily absorbed into our body. When too much is absorbed, most of the extra vitamins will be excreted out of our body. However, taking more than recommended dose can still do harm to the body.
Fat-soluble vitamins on the other hand require the help of bile acid to be absorbed into the body. Once absorbed, the fat-soluble vitamins will be stored in body fats. When needed, these fat-soluble vitamins will be released for consumption by the body. Because fat-soluble vitamins may stay in body fats for a long period of time, taking excessive amount can cause toxic effects for long-period of time.
